Kindergarten

Children aged 3 to 5 step into Kindergarten ready to get curious and grow a little braver every day. In Pre-Kindergarten, Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten, students lead their own joyful journey of discovery through play, hands-on exploration and lively, teacher-guided activities.

Our curriculum

At Lynn-Rose, one of the best Kindergarten schools in Mississauga, our curriculum offers a nurturing, stimulating introduction to school, rooted in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) and aligned with the Ontario Curriculum. From the very beginning, children learn in a small, student-focused environment where they are encouraged to explore, inquire and develop a genuine love of learning.

Units of Inquiry

As an IB World School, Lynn‑Rose brings learning together through rich Units of Inquiry. Children investigate big ideas about themselves, their community and the wider world, asking questions, exploring materials and sharing what they discover.

Learners step into six exciting themes and make connections between the classroom and the world exploring:

  • Who We Are
  • Where We Are in Place and Time
  • How We Express Ourselves
  • How the World Works
  • How We Organize Ourselves
  • Sharing the Planet

This transdisciplinary approach nurtures curiosity, independence and a strong foundation for the Primary Years Programme.

Literacy & Language Studies

Building confident communicators through stories

Young students explore reading, writing, speaking and listening through stories, class discussions and age‑appropriate texts, building strong communication skills. Teachers model rich language and invite children to share ideas, ask questions and retell events.

Early phonics, vocabulary and print awareness are developed in playful, meaningful contexts, helping learners gain confidence with books and written language from the very start of their school journey.

Literacy & Language Studies

Mathematics

Developing strong number sense through hands-on problem‑solving

The focus is on foundational numeracy - understanding numbers, patterns, spatial reasoning and problem‑solving through hands‑on exploration and inquiry. Children count, sort, compare and measure using real objects, games and everyday situations.

They talk about their strategies and notice patterns in the world around them, building a deep, flexible sense of number that prepares them for more advanced mathematics in the primary grades.

Science & Inquiry

Sparking curiosity as children investigate how the world works

Children ask questions, explore their world, make predictions and investigate real‑world phenomena, developing curiosity and the skills to learn how to learn.

Using their senses, they observe plants, weather, materials and living things, then describe what they notice and record ideas in simple ways. This playful, investigative approach nurtures early scientific thinking, problem‑solving and a positive attitude towards discovery.

Social Studies & Global Citizenship

Understanding self, community and the wider world

Students engage in themes about themselves, their community and the wider world - understanding identity, relationships and interconnectedness in a global environment. Through stories, class projects and celebrations, they learn how people live and work together and how their actions affect others.

This early focus on global citizenship fosters empathy, respect and a sense of responsibility that grows with them across the Primary Years Programme.

PE

Building healthy bodies, confidence and coordination

Children move every day through Physical Education, games and outdoor play. They run, jump, balance and practise simple skills that develop gross motor control and body awareness.

In PE, they also learn to follow instructions, take turns, share equipment and encourage classmates, building teamwork, resilience and positive attitudes towards active, healthy living from the very start of their school journey.

French

Building language learning

From the start of their Lynn‑Rose journey, children experience more than one language, with French introduced in Pre‑Kindergarten to spark curiosity, communication and global awareness.

In Junior and Senior Kindergarten, French learning is gently extended with a focus on everyday vocabulary, listening comprehension and simple expressive language, all within an encouraging, low‑pressure environment.

By embedding multilingualism from the earliest years, Lynn‑Rose supports brain development, builds flexible thinking and prepares children to connect with diverse communities in an increasingly interconnected world.

Music

Developing creativity, confidence and joyful expression

At Lynn‑Rose, music from Pre‑Kindergarten through Senior Kindergarten is a joyful, integral part of early learning. From Pre‑K, children explore music through songs, movement, rhythm games and age‑appropriate instruments, building foundational listening, coordination and expressive skills.

In Junior and Senior Kindergarten, these experiences grow into more structured activities that encourage singing, ensemble work and creative music‑making, all within a playful, supportive environment. Our Early Years music program nurtures creativity, confidence and collaboration, helping children grow not only as young musicians, but as curious, expressive and self‑assured learners.

Sana Khan

Being a Kindergarten teacher at a Lynn-Rose school is a truly rewarding experience. My favourite part is how the curriculum not only focuses on strong academic foundations but also nurtures students to become thoughtful global citizens.
